THE BEST CHRISTMAS BAKLAVA

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 pound chopped pecans.
  • 1/2 pound chopped walnuts.
  • 2-3 tbsp. ground cinnamon.
  • 1 pound package of Phyllo dough.
  • 1-1/2 cups butter, melted.
  • 2-1/2 cups honey.
  • 1 tsp. vanilla.
  • 1 tsp. grated lemon zest.

instructions : 

Combine the nuts in a large bowl and add the ground cinnamon.

Put aside.

Oil a 9 “x 13” baking dish.

Place 2 sheets of filo pastry on the bottom of the prepared dish.

Brush generously with melted butter.

Sprinkle the top with 2-3 tablespoons of the nut mixture.

Repeat the layers until all of the nuts, oil, and filo pastry have been used.

Finish with approx.

6 layers of filo pastry on top.

If you still have oil, apply it to the topcoat.

Use a very sharp knife to cut through all of the layers of baklava.

Cut 3-4 lengthways slices.

then make diagonal cuts to make diamonds.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

While the baklava is cooking, bring the honey to a boil in a saucepan.

Add the vanilla and lemon peel.

When the baklava is ready, immediately pour the honey mixture over it.

Let cool completely in a pan.
